Jameer is out again and will need surgery on his left knee. He tore some cartilage towards the end of last night’s game and will be sidelined 4 to 6 weeks. Last February Jameer injured his shoulder and it cost him the remainder of the regular season. He did make a cameo in the finals, but didn’t play All-Star ball much less playoff ball.
The season is only 11 games old, but the Magic have already had Vince Carter, Ryan Anderson, Mickael Pietrus and Brandon Bass miss time with injuries. Dwight Howard shoulder has been ailing him and Rashard Lewis missed the first 10 games with a suspension. There are quite a few new players on the team too. The good news is Jameer will hopefully be out less than 6 weeks and just in time for Christmas.
In the mean time veterans Jason “White Chocolate” Williams and Anthony Johnson will have to fill the void. I think they are more than capable and maybe even better in certain aspects. Jameer’s scoring and creativity may be missed, but his 26 turnovers won’t be. White Chocolate has dished out 44 assists, but more importantly he protects the ball better and his 4.86 assist to turnover ratio is tops on the team and Johnson’s ratio is 4.00, which is great too compared to Jameer’s 2.35. White Chocolate will make the team happier and give Carter, Lewis and Howard more looks.
My take is the Magic won’t really miss a beat. Jameer’s scoring will be absorbed by one of the many great players on the Magic. They will have some issues against some of the faster point guards, but so did Jameer, so that will the same too. This is just another bump in the road to the finals.
