I hear you Laker, Heat, Cavalier, Hornet fans. Kobe Bryant is the man and I would argue nobody is more clutch. Dwayne Wade is a regular on ESPN’s top 10 plays of the day. Lebron James is on a tear, dropping triple double like he’s Oscar Robertson. Chris Paul is leading the league in assists and not only is he a rising superstar, but he’s the best point guard I’ve seen in a long time. So the guard position gets all the flash, highlights and glamor, but I haven’t seen a big man with so much presence underneath the basket, not since Shaq wasn’t fat.
Dwight Howard is dominating the paint and all the big men that stand in there with him. He’s averaging 21 points, which isn’t the 27 or so the candidates get, but he’s averaging 14 rebounds a game and almost 3 blocks too. To put his 856 or 14 rebounds a game in perspective the closet guy to him is David Lee and he’s more than 100 rebounds off the pace. His 177 blocks leads the league, the next closest guy have 130. Oh yeah, he’s shooting it at 57.8%, because he dunks on fools nightly. The only flaw in his game is his free throws and if he ever gets that part respectable he will be unstoppable.
Players are happy with a double double that consists of 10 points and 10 rebounds. Dwight has had six 20 20 nights this season and four other games with 19 rebounds. How many times has Kobe, Dwaye or Lebron dropped 50 points this year? How many times has Chris Paul dished out 20 dimes?
Tonight’s game is against the Bulls and they have a few respectable big men that can rebound, but please note the path the of destruction Howard will leave in his wake.
The MVP is about the best and most dominant player in the NBA and Dwight fits those categories and people should start giving him the consideration he’s earned.
The below video encapsulates what Dwight Howard does on a nightly basis.
