It’s not a bad trade for the Magic. Let’s face it they needed a point guard and they went out and got one.
Alston’s stats are pretty good, his 258 dimes are 24th for PG’s and his 3:1 assist to turnover ratio is very good. His 57 steals on the year and 80 three pointers from beyond the arc are solid. He’s been averaging over 33 minutes a game for the Rockets and he should get plenty of minutes with the Magic too. The only downside is his dismal .357 shooting percentage, but he has some talented players around, so I look for the 5.4 assists per game to increase with the Magic and hopefully better shot selection too.
You don’t get too many chances to make a run, so I’m happy the Magic made the trade. Hopefully he picks up the system and Magic don’t lose too much ground on the Cavs and Celtics.
